NOW Taurine is a free-form amino acid that participates in a variety of metabolic processes. Taurine is a neurotransmitter, a neuromodulator and is involved in glucose uptake. It is found in meats, fish, milk and eggs, but not in vegetable proteins, so supplementation is especially important for vegetarians

Taurine is a conditionally essential amino acid which is not utilized in protein synthesis, but is mainly found free in most tissues, especially throughout the nervous system. Taurine has been found to be important in the formation of bile salts, cell membrane stabilization and eye health. Taurine is well known for its role in the modulation of neurotransmitter activity and its relaxing effect on the mood.

Jarrow Formulas, Taurine 1000, 1000 mg, 100 Capsules  http://www.iherb.com/Jarrow-Formulas-Taurine-1000-1000-mg-100-Capsules/133?at=0

* Pharmaceutical Grade
* Antioxidant Amino Acid
* Dietary Supplement

Taurine is a sulfur-containing, antioxidant amino acid that protects against free radical damage to cells, and aids in osmoregulation (maintenance of proper concentrations of ions) inside the cell, membrane stabilization, sperm motility, bile acid conjugation, neurotransmission and athletic performance (acts as an insulin mimetic, to allow for better glucose deposition into muscles).

If you for some reason cannot produce enough bile and have liver problems, this is a great product, according to science, but this is also my personal experience. Helps with constipation. Helps with fatty acid metabolism. Also good for the heart.

High quality; taurine is a neuroprotective compound which operates as a powerful antioxidant. It’s concentrated in organs that have a lot of electrical activity such as the brain, eyes, and heart. Taurine also provides protection from the free radical toxicity of the brain plaque called beta-amyloid.

I bought this and the Now Foods Taurine as the latter described itself as being Free-Form (no idea what that means). The normal dosage is 1 tab but I had read that certain extra benefits could be had by taking 2000mg so I take one of each every day. I could definitely feel an increase in stamina and concentration.

Sun L Theanine and Taurine July 27, 2009
From California
I ordered these products 2 weeks ago. I tried them separately. The Taurine gave me a severe migraine and I took it three day in a row once a day. It definitely did what it was supposed to do but unfortunately I experienced the migraine. I wanted to know if anyone else experienced this. I’m still rating it with 5 stars because it was certainly a calming/relaxing agent. The Sun L Theanine is excellent and I suffered no migraine so I’m sticking with it and it too, did exactly what the “reviewers” stated. I’m thrilled.

Great for Diabetics January 01, 2010
By Oliver Green From New York
I have read that Taurine helps to control blood sugar. I have notice a difference in my numbers since I have been taking Taurine. It also helps with seizures too. (See Vita Nutrient Solution by Dr Atkins, this is a great book. It is all about nutrition and has very little about low carb diets)

Taurine is an essential nutrient for me. Helps move bile, eliminates any heart problems like arrythmias, PVC’s, etc. It also has a calming effect to it. If taken before exercise, it increases endurance and stamina. All these things I’ve verified personally.

My cat 17 year old cat has a lot more energy since I started giving him this product. I mix 1/8 tsp into his food, morning and evening. It’s odorless and tasteless so he doesn’t even know it’s there. I wish I had learned about this stuff a long time ago!

Takes the Edge Off Stressful Day September 14, 2010
From California
I’ve found taurine very useful for calming myself on stressful days. Take 2 tsp. a few hours before a job interview, for example. Makes me calm but not drowsy or sluggish. The stuff has almost no taste, so it’s easy to take. Just mix in water and drink it.

Stops Hypomanic Episodes in it’s Tracks! April 15, 2010
From Illinois
I’m Bipolar II, and tend to rapid cycle. The type of mania I get rarely ever the euphoric kind. It’s the irritable, distracted, restless, anxious, can’t work, can’t focus, can’t deal with anybody kind. Now when I feel this type of episode coming on, I pop down one tablespoon of this stuff and chase it with water and it evens me out within 15 minutes. In fact, I can take it anytime during one of these irritated states and it will bring me out of it. It also seems to have a bit of a diuretic effect which is fine by me since I sometimes retain water.

Taurine January 24, 2010
From New Hampshire
First became aware of Taurine because it’s frequently listed as an ingredient in energy drinks. Decided to try adding it to my morning ginseng beverage. With a few drops of Gotu Kola, it seems to boost energy.
