About Magnesium

Most of us are deficient in magnesium.

While this macro-mineral is easily obtained from many foods, magnesium deficiencies are extremely common for many Americans. Alcohol consumption, the presence of fluoride, and the consumption of certain foods either increase our need for magnesium, or decrease its absorption. Magnesium is not only one of the key nutrients required in both calcium utilization and protein synthesis, but it also plays a tremendous role in virtually every enzymatic reaction in our body.

Magnesium is a mineral that is critical for energy production and metabolism, muscle contraction, nerve impulse transmission and bone mineralization. It is required cofactor for an estimated 300 enzymes. Among the reactions catalyzed by these enzymes are fatty acid synthesis, protein synthesis and glucose metabolism.

Essential for:

  • Nervous System Support
  • Energy Production
  • Enzyme Function
  • Bone health
  • Sleep and calmness
  • Decalcification
  • Regular bowel movement
  • Muscles and leg cramps

Magnesium ions are essential to the basic nucleic acid chemistry of life, and 80 percent of the enzymes in the body need Mg in order to function. Mg deficiency can affect every organ system in the body. In skeletal muscles, Mg deficiency causes twitches, cramps, back aches, neck pain, tension headaches. With the heart Mg deficiency can cause angina (from spasm of the coronary arteries), high blood pressure, and rhythm disturbances, including sudden death.

Magnesium Citrate is produced from the synthesis of Magnesium Carbonate and Citric Acid and is a readily bioavailable source of this key mineral. It plays key roles in the activation of amino acids for protein biosynthesis and is highly concentrated in intracellular fluid and bone.

Since adding this supplement to my schedule I have been resting better and have been very regular with my bowl movments! I take 3 capsuls per day and can really tell a difference for the worse if I don’t take them.

I tried a more expensive Magnesium that came in tablets. I had to take twice as much and it still did not work so I tested it, and it did not dissolve. With the NOW product in capsule form, I cut my dosage in half with great results.

One of my best iherb purchases so far. Really helps to calm me down before going to bed. Also useful in stressful situations. Much better tolerated than the Oxide form.

I actually carry some of these caps around with me in my purse at all times. Magnesium is so helpful if you tend to get leg cramps or twitches. In fact, I carry some of these caps with me at all times, in case my magnesium level gets low, and I feel a leg cramp coming on while I am away from home.

This is one supplement where the effects are almost immediately noticeable. (usually overnight) I take magnesium citrate to help reduce muscle spasms but it also works as a mineral laxative. I’ve tried other brands and other formulas and I prefer this particular Now Foods formula. The capsules are easy to swallow and they don’t upset my stomach.

Great magnesium for anxiety, and improved sleep Thanks

I take this for extreme muscle pain and tension and it works great. It also works for bowel pain.

I bought this for my mother to help with restless nights and it’s working very well. In addition it seems to have calmed her nervous system.

I take magnesium citrate for migraine prevention and muscle cramps…Now Foods is a brand I trust and iHerb has incredible pricing – especially when bought in quantity like I do. I buy 4 of each item, get a good discount & free shipping (since my orders are high enough), and don’t run out nearly as often as when I was running to the local GNC…oh yeah, have I mentioned I don’t waste a drop of gasoline!!!

After having surgery for a kidney stone in spring 2008, the urologist who operated on me recommended that I take magnesium citrate to prevent more stones from forming. Have been using this supplement and so far no more stones.

I occasionally wake in the night with leg cramps and find that one capsule relieves the cramps in about 6 minutes and I can then get back to sleep.

I need extra magnesium to keep my heart beat regular. I take this mag citrate if I’m having trouble with constipation, and high absorption magnesium if I’m not.

Most of us are deficient in magnesium. I read about magnesium citrate in “The Magnesium Miracle”, by Dr. Carolyn Dean. Magnesium oil is more easily absorbed by the body, but this product is not as messy.

This magnesium is one of the best absorbed and is great if you tend towards constipation.

I trust all NOW Products. I have found them all to be the best. I take the magnesium citrate for my heart paplations. Upon taking it for about a week they have gone away completely. I use to have them upon laying down for sleep at night and now I never have them. Magnesium is excellent for this problem and also we do not get enough magnesium in our diets here in the US any more so taking Magnesium is great for many other functions of the human body. Also, being on a fixed income the prices at Iherb are the best. Thank you IHerb.

Easy on the intestines and feels very absorbable.

I take just one 160mg Magnesium Citrate capsule (don’t want to get the laxative effect) about 1 hr before bed, and wake up next morning with clear mind and a good disposition to start the day. To me this is an indication that the citrate form of magnesium is well absorbed. Good Now Foods product.

Helps both my husband and me to sleep better.

This is the best magnesium supplement I have used. Excellent.

I started taking this in the spring or early summer, to help with calcium absorption. But I’ve since learned that magnesium might help prevent Migraines too. I haven’t had a migraine since May, so I’m optimistically hopeful!!! I don’t dare be without it!

I take these almost daily as magnesium is an essential nutrient. I feel I get the best quality and price with this brand and would recommend to anyone.

Much better to have the Vcaps for absorption, rather than the tablets. It’s an excellent product for balancing out calcium intake. Very happy with the price and quality.

2 Vcaps daily should be enough for everyone. If you take three of these daily your stomach might not like it. Magnesium citrate helps to keep my muscles going. Helps me to sleep much better and relaxed.

Magnesium Citrate made by Now Foods has been a product that I have used for several years. When taken with calcium, it provides the appropriate balance to keep my bones healthy. Now Foods makes Magnesium Citrate in capsule form which is better to digest with food. Good product! Thank you iHerb for keeping the cost reasonable. I will order again when needed. Peggy
